Transition of the Ages (was Faith vs. Magick)

Greetings Joseph,

Thanks for the article, informative as always. I was reading something that I'd like to share, it dealt with aeons and how humanity as a whole would react towards their gods and why, partly because I think it ties in with much of what you have written in your article.

As we are now in the Aeon of Horus (The Crowned and Conquering Child) I believe that faith (I really have struggled myself and continue to do so with some of the Osirian Age trappings) will change into a belief that has been shaped over the years from a process of discovering ones own divinity within. But I think we are a long ways from that yet, and I am using as a marker to judge this growth, myself. In the end it does boil down to every individual.

In the beginning there was the Aeon of Isis, most societies worshiped the female current because humanity as a whole saw that we came forth from woman, she bled inexplicably and when she stopped bleeding her belly would swell and life would appear. She was divine indeed. We also observed that she was very closely connected to the moon and its cycles, hence most worship was centered around the Mother and the lunar energies. "For like every Aeon, the magical formula of the Aeon of Isis was founded upon mankind's interpretation of the *perceived facts* of nature, and our Isian-age progentors perceived nature as a continuos process of spontaneous growth." (Duquette, The Magick of Aleister Crowley). But that was about to change, as we became more aware and gained a new understanding of our surroundings.......

Enter the Aeon of Osiris (The Dying God). It would seem that there was a shift in attention from the female current to the male current. We got there from noticing that seeds, our very sustenance depended on the Sun. The Sun was the giver of life, so most female dieties worshiped prior became the wifes of the Gods that represented the Sun. Humanity as a whole began worshiping the Sun in a myriad of forms all across the globe and most female worship cults began diminishing. But humanity began to have this morbid fascination with death and sacrifice when they witnessed the journey of the Sun in the sky. Would it come back? It seemed that daily the Sun died and night befell us all. But what would happen if the Sun did not rise out of the East as it should? This led to great introspection and fear. To the night belonged terrifying things because the Sun was not there to offer protection. It would seem the Sun God died daily only to resurrect yet again. So in order to ensure that humanity would not undergo a long night we needed to sacrifice ourselves if necessary to guarantee the safe return of the Sun. The next question of course would be if the Sun ressurects, can we as well? And here I believe is where most systems of worship from a magickal system becamea more controlling faith belief religious system, as those in power began to see the great control they can wield over others. As long as there were people in power ensuring (priests of every civilization, of every belief system) that the offerings were sufficient to appease the Gods then humanity as a whole lost this individual link they had to the divine. As long as someone else was in charge of this, why should the rest of us worry?!? We can see the results of that belief system all around us.

But we are now in a new age, a new consciousness is upon us, that of the Child Horus. It no longer means that we have to bow down to worship because after all it was all an illusion. The Sun didn't die, science has shown us why Night occurs. The Divine has always been there whether day or night, and it is up to each and every one of us to tap into that current. The former aeons were a necessity with all of its downfalls that we created for it brought us advancement. We now know that we need not ignore the Mother nor the Father for they play a crucial role to this day, that there is nothing to fear. It is our duty to unite the pentagram with the hexagram and become Gods in our own rights.

Great article Joseph, it gave me much to ponder upon and I hope my interpretation will also serve its purpose.

Peace and blessings,

daath
